Job Description

Job Summary:

Oversee, manage and coordinate purchase of all fuel products and determine retail prices for direct sites as well as wholesale prices for DTW locations (approximately 750 locations in total). Partner with Vice Presidents of each respective geographic region and with the Company Operations Vice President on strategies.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Pricing, Strategy & Technology

  • Manage and coordinate the retail pricing team that prices approximately 300 company operated and 250 commission agent locations using Kalibrate pricing software
  • Manage and coordinate Dealer Tank Wagon pricing and competitive trade areas with the pricing team as well as consulting with the operations team for 200+ franchise dealer locations using Kalibrate
  • Collaborate, setup and monitor contract dealer pricing strategies including SPOT business
  • Ensure Dealer contract supply accounts are set up and maintained properly (i.e. Price formula, supply points, hauler rates, Online ordering)
  • Manage and coordinate spot supply options and spot pricing using Axxis to quote customers and import proper pricing into PDI for billing purposes
  • Optimize, enhance, Analytical capabilities of Kalibrate, Axxis, PDI and Other
  • Make field visits to sites with or without operations to evaluate competition and identify other opportunities and to fully understand the competitive landscape


  • Review gallons and margin reports to identify emerging trends or anomalies
  • Assess macro and micro market strategy
  • Assess competition strategies based on market conditions
  • Manage Pricing Analysts to ensure proper strategies are being executed by using KPIs
  • Collaborate and partner with supply groups

Supply and Related Supply Relationships

  • Manage product purchasing from over 13 fuel brands and over 20 unbranded suppliers including internal options for 1500+ retail branded and unbranded locations
  • Ensure wholesale pricing is in line with competition, purchasing optimization
  • Maximize marketing opportunities including loyalty and incentive programs
  • Communicate with the respective account managers for each supplier about pricing issues or supply issues for both the branded and unbranded suppliers


  • Partner with logistics and Dispatch teams to:
    • Optimize purchasing by terminal pull point and net cost
    • Ensure competitive rates and service satisfaction from all independent haulers
    • Ensure management of haulers and inventory levels for market conditions
    • Maintain day-to-day vendor relationships
    • Maintain relationships with haulers and ensure business relationships and opportunities are being recognized

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Industry knowledge is a must
  • Ideal candidate should have a four-year degree in Business or related major, MBA or post-college is helpful, but not mandatory
  • Must have strong leadership skills to mentor and motivate Pricing Analysts to perform at a high level
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to ensure the Sales Team knows exactly what is expected
  • Reasoning and decision-making ability
  • Tech friendly, savvy data consumer
  • Some travel required
